I started this shop because I wanted more people in Europe to discover the joy of Japanese stationery — and that’s absolutely true.
But honestly, the real reason is also simple: I wanted to use Japanese stationery myself while living abroad. And I figured I can’t be the only one.
Here are the three things that, to me, make Japanese stationery so special:
1) Surprisingly high quality — even at an affordable price
Europe has wonderful stationery brands too: fountain pens, colored pencils, beautiful pens — plenty of true classics.
What I love about Japanese stationery is this: even everyday, easy-to-pick-up items can be made with incredible care. You often find yourself thinking, “How is this this good for the price?”
2) Thoughtful details that make daily life easier
Everyday life is full of tiny, almost invisible frustrations — especially with things you use all the time.
Japanese stationery makers are remarkably good at noticing those “small annoyances”… and refusing to leave them unsolved. The result is stationery that’s practical, sometimes delightfully unique, and often makes you think, “Ohhh, that’s clever.”
3) “Kawaii” that gives you a small boost
Sanrio, anime, illustration culture, idol culture — “kawaii” is a big part of Japan’s culture, and stationery is no exception.
It’s not just character goods. Even notebooks, memo pads, stickers, and small tools often come with that playful charm. Life can be stressful or a bit dull sometimes, but keeping a tiny favorite item in your pencil case or pouch can lift your mood: a little joy, a little motivation, a little smile.
Japanese stationery is full of these small sparks.
I’d be truly happy if, here at The BUNBOGU Store, you discover some of them — and grow to love Japanese stationery in Europe, too.
One small request before I go:
The BUNBOGU Store is a small, one-person shop. That means there may be times when information is missing, or I make a mistake (I’m human!). If you notice anything, please feel free to message me anytime via the contact form. I’ll keep improving step by step, and grow this into a shop you can enjoy for a long time.
I also plan to share not only products, but little bits of Japanese stationery culture and fun ways to use them. So even if you’re not shopping, I’d love for you to drop in now and then. 😊
P.S. The owner is a very devoted JETSTREAM fan — and definitely a cat person. That might influence the selection a little. 😉
If you ever want to say, “Please stock this too!”, I’m always happy to hear your requests and suggestions.
